TOWN MANAGER – Ahoskie, North Carolina
Ahoskie is a beautiful rural community located in northeastern North Carolina near the Chowan River with a population of 5,039. The town is seeking a qualified applicant to implement the policies of the Mayor and a five-member Town Council.
Ahoskie is the largest community serving in Hertford County and is home to the Historic Atlantic District Fairgrounds which still has one of the only active harness racing tracks left in North Carolina. The town has deep agricultural roots and is conveniently located less than two hours from the Atlantic Ocean and approximately one hour from several major shopping areas.
The successful candidate will provide proactive operational leadership with assistance from highly qualified and professional department heads. The Manager is also the Budget Officer and responsible for planning, preparation, and submission of the annual budget of approximately $11-12 million. In addition to financial responsibilities, the Manager also oversees personnel, including the town’s 73 full-time staff members.
Additionally, the Manager provides Town Council with information and expertise on delivery of municipal services and capital activities including Capital Improvement Plan development. A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate experience in economic development, project management, long-range planning, municipal finance, and personnel administration. The Manager has final authority on personnel issues, must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and work equally well with the governing board, state and county legislatures, state and county agencies, staff, and citizens.
The ideal candidate would possess a master’s degree in a related field and five or more years of relevant experience. In-town residency is required and salary is commensurate with education, experience, and training. A competitive benefits package is offered.
